It’s important to be able to stop when you want to. There are three basic stops in skating: the snowplow stop, the T-stop, and the hockey stop.
Begin by gliding on two feet with your knees slight bent. In a snowplow stop, both feet press against the ice and slide out to the sides, ending in an upside down V position. Here is my friend Manny, part-time instructor at Rockefeller Rink, demonstrating the snowplow stop:
