Yesterday morning at Rockefeller Skating Rink, Lena and Jenny, ages 8 and 11 respectively, joined 100 other girls to skate and celebrate Mia, the American Girl of the Year 2008. The attendees were then treated to a special performance by four up-and-coming skaters, who each performed an individual number and then a group number. The event was hosted by three-time U.S. pairs champion, Olympian and World medalist JoJo Starbuck, who also acted as choreographer for the skating programs.
JoJo (now a mother of two young boys) looks beautiful and still wows the crowd with her grace, athleticism and speed on the ice. The video below does not do her justice -- I've seen her do axels at the rink without batting an eyelash...
There are two more skate dates with Mia and her friends on January 24 and February 3 and reservations are required.
