The U.S. Figure Skating Championships are being held January 20-27 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Yesterday, the novice competition concluded and below are the results. For those new to the terminology, don't let the word "novice" fool you - these competitors are doing triple jumps in their programs and the level of difficulty is still pretty darn high! I have to say a special "congratulations" to Felicia Zhang of the Skating Club of New York, who came in third. Felicia used to take lessons at Rockefeller Rink (which is where I skate) with my good friend, Rikki Samuels, before she dedicated herself fully to her indoor home rink. I remember her out on the ice with a determined (and adorable) look on her face, and boy, is she going places!
Whether skaters compete in novice, juniors and seniors is determined by which USFSA tests they passed. Next up on the schedule, the junior competitors will be crowned, so stay tuned...
