At the 2008 ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden, the pairs competition concluded, and Germany came out on top. Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy won the gold medal, China's Dan Zhang and Hao Zhang won the silver, and Canada's Jessica Dubé and Bryce Davison won the bronze. (The last time a Canadian pair was on the podium was when Jamie Salé and David Pelletier won Worlds in 2001.) The U.S. team of Rena Inoue and John Baldwin placed tenth and John also announced that they were planning a summer wedding. The second U.S. team of Brooke Castile and Ben Okolski placed eleventh.
Today the ladies champion will be decided. After the short, Italy's Carolina Kostner leads, followed by Japan's Mao Asada and Yukari Nakano.

None of the pairs performances was stellar, just shows how nervous everyone was.

It is ashamed for the pair staking competition last night. How Aliona Savchenko / Robin Szolkowy could win the first place with both failed to the triple and none of the consequent actions did beautifully and perfectly. We believed that even the winner themselves could not fell so comfortable standing at the leading position. That's why when the ABC interviewed them, they could not say something meaningfully. Because when she asked him, he said you had better ask me tomorrow. He perhapses thought that the result could be changed by a fair judgment tomorrow. We hope even if the result could not be changed, this kind of unfairness will not happen again.
