I did a "Catching up with..." piece on Lisa Ervin recently. Lisa was a star in the early nineties and is now a skating coach and ISU technical specialist and judge. She mentioned during our conversation how impressed she was with Italy's Carolina Kostner, whom she judged at the recent European Championships. That got me to thinking that I have not watched enough of Carolina Kostner and I really should. Thank you YouTube!
In addition to being the 2007 and 2008 European champion, Carolina is also the 2008 World silver medalist. Below is her short program at the 2008 World Figure Skating Championships where she showcases her amazing speed and grace on the ice. I love her opening jump -- her trademark triple flip/triple toe executed just perfectly. She also wore a very pretty and distinctive kind of unitard/catsuit for her short program, which I swear, my girlfriend wore the same thing to a club.
