A few days ago, I was sitting on a park bench with my friend reminiscing about the golden days of going to school and having the summers off. She asked how my website was going and I answered "great" -- it's been the most work and the most fun I've ever had. And I also added that the first major international competition coming up would be one of the Junior Grand Prix events, starting August 27, so I was looking forward to the competitive season gearing up again. That got me to thinking...what do the young competitors do during the summer? Is it nonstop training or do they actually enjoy a vacation?
During the summer most of my time is spent at the rink, but I do have some free time and I make the best of every minute of it! I spend a lot of my time hanging out with my girlfriend Alexis (see above) and best friend Erik. We go to movies and the mall a lot, but my favorite thing to do is go to the pool or go out on my boat. I love the water and everything to do with it! My parents always joke that if I wasn't a skater I would definitely be a swimmer (see below, Danny and Alexis). This summer, my parents are also allowing me to go out on the boat by myself and bring my friends out, so that is a lot of fun. All of my friends love to go out and go tubing and water skiing!
I also spend a lot of time with my new puppy Zoey (see right). She was my reward for my achievements this year in skating. She is a golden retriever and is absolutely adorable! We go for walks and I have taught her to play fetch. My friends and I have also gone to concerts this year, and there are two more coming up that I plan to attend -- the summerfest and the country thunder concerts which are just big parties where a bunch of different concerts go on!
I also enjoy quiet time being with my family and just laying around at home. I am really enjoying watching the Olympic trials (gymnastic especially, wow, they are good!), and am very excited for the Olympics to start in Beijing in August. I also enjoy reading a lot, but lately it has been the books for school that I have to read for my summer reading requirements. I hope this has been an informative insight into my summer life!
