Adam Rippon (see right), the 2008 World Junior Champion and 2007 Junior Grand Prix Final Champion, on Family Guy, Michelle Kwan, ice dancing, Cup of Russia, birthdays, and being a clown. Adam moved up to the senior level this coming season and is scheduled to compete in Skate America (October 24-26) and Cup of Russia (November 20-23), as part of the 2008-2009 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series. He is also working with world-renowned coach and choreographer Nikolai Morozov this season.
I'M HARD AT WORK. . .getting ready for the new season!
YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW THAT. . .I love listening to music and watching Family Guy and The Office.
MY GUILTY PLEASURE IS. . .eating ice cream!
IN MY FRIDGE, YOU'LL ALWAYS FIND. . .salads, fruits, and yogurt. I love them!
MY HEROS (SKATING AND NONSKATING) ARE. . .Michelle Kwan (no words) and my mom!
IF I COULD HAVE A DO-OVER ABOUT ANYTHING IN LIFE, I WOULD. . .probably not change anything. Everything happens for a reason. You live and you learn.
THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS STAGE IN MY LIFE IS. . .that I have many years of exciting things yet to come!
MY MOST EMBARRASSING SKATING MOMENT WAS. . .I was at Nationals in 2006 and I didn’t skate very well and someone came up to me and told me that they loved my skating. I told them that I didn’t think that I skated very well and she continued to tell me how she thought I was such a beautiful skater. She then told me how my FREE DANCE was so beautiful. She thought I was Charlie White. I very delicately broke the news that I wasn’t her favorite ice dancer.
IF I HAVE FREE TIME TO KILL, I WOULD. . .most likely want to hang out with my brothers at home (see right).
MY FAVORITE PLACES TO VISIT HAVE BEEN. . .I think it’s such a hard question to answer. But of my favorites, I loved Milan, Italy and Canillo, Andorra. They are both so beautiful and I have great memories from both. The fan support from Bulgaria, Russia, Korea, Japan and the United States was and is incredible. I have too many favorite cities to name them all!
I WILL CELEBRATE MY BIRTHDAY ON NOVEMBER 11 BY. . .training hard for Cup of Russia. I cannot even believe that I am turning 19 already!
CAN YOU UPDATE US ON ON YOUR POST-HIGH SCHOOL STUDIES? I am very interested in psychology and I’ve recently become pretty interested in writing as well. I am getting ready to take one course in the fall due to my crazy traveling schedule.
WHAT ARE YOUR SHORT AND LONG PROGRAMS FOR THIS SEASON? My short program, described in a few words, are powerful, fast and fun. It is Storm by Vanessa Mae. As for my free program this year, I know I will love working on this program as the season progresses. The music is to Stephen Sondheim’s Send in the Clowns and I Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo.
(UPDATE: Adam finished eighth at Skate America and fifth at Cup of Russia.)
