I've officially become a Patrick Chan fan. Since World champion Jeffrey Buttle announced his retirement last month, all eyes have been on 17-year-old Patrick as the next great Canadian hope for Olympic gold. There is so much to view on YouTube and yesterday, finally, I got around to really watching and appreciating Patrick's long program at the 2008 Canadian Championships. Skating to Vivaldi's Four Seasons, I was struck by his unbelievable edge work and choreography. (I'm the type of viewer who likes the footwork moreso than the jumps and spins.) Patrick won the title, ahead of Jeffrey Buttle who placed second, and perhaps the torch was passed that day.
For the 2008-2009 Grand Prix series, Patrick is entered in two events: Skate Canada (October 31 - November 2) and Trophée Eric Bompard (November 13 - November 16). Patrick is defending his title at Trophée Eric Bompard so what a thrill it will be for him to win it again. Below is the Four Seasons program which I thoroughly enjoyed watching.
