It's official. Japan's Daisuke Takahashi, 2007 world silver medalist and three-time Japanese national champion, and the man who had the "IT" program last year with Swan Lake (Hip Hop Version), will miss the rest of the season. Yesterday, he announced on the Kansai University Ice Skating Club website that he will undergo surgery on his right knee to repair ligament damage. We knew something was amiss when he skipped Cup of China after injuring his knee during practice.
Takahashi wrote, "I've decided to have surgery, I will sit out this season and it will take time to return to my best condition. It's very disappointing but just as an athlete needs courage to make progress, he also needs courage to know when to take time off."
Let's not panic people! He's only 22 so plenty of time to heal properly and compete at the level he wants to. In the meantime, look for Skate America winner Takahiko Kozuka (who may have the new "IT" program with his Take Five by Dave Brubek), Mr. Butter Knees himself Nobunari Oda, and Kensuke Nakaniwa to take advantage of his absence.

Takahashi Kozuka? I think you mean Takahiko Kozuka.
