Last night the Rockefeller Center tree was lit at 8:56 p.m. ET at Rockefeller Center Skating Rink and what a beautiful sight! I was wrong -- Britney Spears was not on hand to help Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Jerry Speyer (co-owner of Rockefeller Center) with the countdown. She pre-recorded her standups (no singing) the prior day, but gee, she looked great. From Jamie Foxx, Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, Beyonce to Tony Bennett and many others, they all sang Christmas songs with their own special take on them (my favorite being Jamie Foxx's Christmas Song ("Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire")). Over 100,000 people gathered in the area to celebrate the 76th annual tree-lighting.
Every year I keep wishing that they would end the show with a lone skater on the rink (no big names, just a skater out there enjoying the beauty of skating) but maybe that's too much to ask considering all the stage setup that's going on. Wouldn't that be a great ending? Unfortunately, the 8-9 p.m. show on NBC was jam-packed with singers and celebrity standups so alas, there was no actual ice skating at the world's most famous rink. Which I find odd...And I'm not just saying that because this is a skating website. But how can you not show ice skating for a tree-lighting ceremony that takes place at an ice skating rink?
The tree will be up and lit 24/7 until January 9, 2009 so get your viewing in before then!

do you know whose gonna be in grand prix final? i hope you put the list in your page , take care girl ^^

Yes!, its too bad there are no skaters for the tree lighting event. It would be great to help set the mood for such an elegant event.
