There's a new definition of "crowded" that I'm going to use from now on. If someone tells me, "Boy, was it crowded!" I'm going to ask, "Crowded, like 'crowded' or crowded, like 'Rockefeller Tree crowded'?" I was sooo psyched to see Brian Boitano skate live on Tuesday morning at Rockefeller Rink for the Today show and got to the rink at 8 a.m. Wouldn't you know it, with the holiday masses wanting to view the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree before it's taken down on January 9, there was already an enormous crowd at the rink and it was difficult to even approach the rink. I managed to watch Brian's skate from above and did get a few snidbits of his skate on my videocamera. During the interview with Meredith Vieira, he said that his New Year's show with music by Seal is airing today from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. EST on NBC and that he choreographed this particular number just for the Today show.
When I got home and was talking to my friend on the phone, she asked what I managed to capture. I answered, "Oh, not much but it was still great to see someone like him live. Who knows when he'll stop skating regularly, so I don't want to take it for granted. But anyway, he did a double toe loop, double axel, a series of walleys, outside spread eagle, camel spin, but I just have him on my camera doing a double loop and then an inside spread eagle." And then I paused and realized, "Oh my goodness! I'm come full circle!" The backstory is this: I became interested in watching skating because of Brian during the 1988 Olympics. Like everyone, I was mesmerized by the "Battle of the Brians" and I remember just watching them skate, and not knowing any of the jumps or spins -- Just appreciating the skating for what it was. Now here I am, 20 years later, ticking off everything Brian did at Rockefeller Rink -- how surreal is that?
So, in conclusion, are you like me? Like to see things sometimes in slow-motion to really analyze the posture, edge, alignment? If so, here's Brian's double loop and inside spread eagle.

That sounds good!1
