What is up with the NBC coverage for the 2009 U.S. Figure Skating Championships? They're showing the men's short programs and I'm missing some of my favorites from Group 2 -- Jason Wong, Adam Rippon, Stephen Carriere -- I guess I'll have to wait until icenetwork puts up all the free skates on Tuesday. They did show Johnny Weir's free skate. It was painful to watch and he looked pained afterwards. Johnny popped the opening triple axel and it was kind of going downhill from there. He completed other triples, but it didn't seem like...Johnny. NBC commentator Sandra Bezic thought that the last couple of months had affected him with his various ailments. Scott Hamilton also noted that with the level of skating he was exhibiting, the field was going to have to come back to him, since he was not going toward the field. Good analogy, I'll remember that. But as Sandra and Scott also said, next year is what counts, it being an Olympic year. So if you're going to have an off week, it's better to work out the kinks now and peak next year.
Standings for the men after Groups 1 and 2 are as follows. Note: SP=Short Program and FS=Free Skate
