I've got my press pass for Monday night to attend Figure Skating in Harlem's 2009 Skating with the Stars benefit. Figure Skating in Harlem (FSH) is a girls development program that combines free ice skating lessons with academic studies. This year's gala will honor World champion in pairs Tai Babilionia and New York State’s First Lady, Michelle Paige Paterson. This is the fifth year that FSH is holding this benefit (my first year attending) and the roster of skating luminaries scheduled to attend is amazing. The list includes 2009 World Champion Evan Lysacek, 2009 World silver medalists Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto, skating legend Dorothy Hamill, Olympic silver medalist and U.S. champion Sasha Cohen, Olympic gold medalists Sarah Hughes and Viktor Petrenko, U.S. and World champions Todd Eldredge and Kimmie Meissner, U.S. champions Alissa Czisny and Timothy Goebel and the list goes on. And yes, you can bet I will try my best to get as many photos and on-camera interviews with each and every one of them.
Joyce and David Dinkins (he was mayor of NYC), Terry and Tina Lundgren (he is Macy's CEO) and Donald and Melania Trump (we all know who he is -- the one who fired Scott Hamilton off Celebrity Apprentice) will serve as this year’s Honorary Chairs. The gala co-chairs are Star Jones, Candace S. Matthews, Teresa Teague, and Tamara Tunie. In the past, this star-studded event has attracted celebrities such as Kelly Ripa, Vera Wang, Mariska Hargitay, Christopher Meloni, Richie Rich, Kimberley Locke, and Kelly Rowland. The evening will also include a dinner buffet and auction. Whitney Houston, Mariska Hargitay and Peter Hermann, Lorraine Bracco, Christopher and Sherman Meloni, Apolo Anton Ohno, Cameron Mathison, and Martha Stewart are among the members of the 2009 Benefit Committee.
Tickets start at $300 and are available by calling (212) 675-9474. Visit charitybuzz.com to find great auction items for bidding online from March 25 to April 21.
