Johnny Weir performed his lovely Ave Maria exhibition program recently at the Floyd Hall Arena in Little Falls, New Jersey. The April 4 event also featured Jeremy Abbott and others and proceeds from the benefit went to the Skate for Knowledge Scholarship Fund. Afterwards, the skaters mingled with the crowd, signed autographs and it was great to see them in such an intimate setting. Typically I see the skaters perform in huge ice venues and it must be difficult for them to connect with the bleacher seat fan. Here, every seat was the best view and you even got to chat with them one-on-one!
My interview with Johnny at the event, including his update on the new Sundance documentary series featuring him, will be coming up. In the meantime, click below to see some moments from Johnny's skate and autograph session. (Above right, Johnny Weir signs autograph for fan at Floyd Hall Ice Arena, New Jersey)
