Ever see a skater and a program come together so brilliantly that you think, "This person was born to skate to this song." I kind of feel that way about Johnny Weir and Ave Maria sung by Josh Groban. This was an exhibition program for Johnny and every time I see it, whether it's on television, YouTube or live, as was the case a few weeks ago in Little Falls, New Jersey, he always gives it his all. And you get the sense that regardless of whether he is skating to a packed stadium or to one person at the rink, he would skate the same.
What a treat to be up close during his performance. I'm always amazed at the speed of the elite skaters -- television and especially the computer screen do a poor job of capturing their pure strength on the ice. Johnny's performance at the Floyd Hall Ice Arena was to benefit a scholarship fund. He was also joined by numerous other greats, including 2009 U.S. National champion Jeremy Abbott. Jeremy debuted a new show program and also brought back one of my favs -- Treat by Santana. Treat is coming up next so stay tuned!
