What an exciting evening I had at the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony! This is the first year I've had the opportunity to see it in person and I got to the rink extra early to see some of the behind-the-scenes work that goes on before the actual live show on NBC. I saw Aretha Franklin, Michael Bublé and Jose Feliciano rehearse during the day. In the evening, they also had Rod Stewart, Shakira, Alicia Keys, Jo Dee Messina, Barry Manilow and Rob Thomas perform, although I think some of them were pre-taped earlier in the month.
The middle of the rink was used as center stage (so that explains why there were no skaters this year) and the rink was covered with white carpet so the audience could walk over to watch the performers. Wouldn't you know it, at 6 pm., the rain started to come down and then by 7ish, it was pouring, but that didn't dampen anyone's spirit. The crowd also consisted of a lot of Marines in uniform and they brought their families so that made the ceremony extra special. Full photo gallery and video of event coming up soon!
