Sasha Cohen missed Skate America and Trophee Eric Bompard due to tendinitis in her right calf but that didn't mean she was sitting pretty at home in California. A few days after Skate America was over, Sasha made an appearance at Rockefeller Rink in New York City for a corporate event. No "performance" per se -- she got out on the ice and skated around while a medley of Frank Sinatra music played in the background.
Here's what I learned about myself that day -- Watching her without the jumps, I started paying more attention to the upper body and how finished and polished all her movements were. I watched her live and then watched the video above several times. I realized how perfect her arms, down to her palms, down to her fingertips, were in doing everything, and I mean EVERYTHING. Afterwards, a local news station came down to interview her (see right) and she mentioned how excited she was to skate at Nationals in January (she won in 2006) and hopefully make it to her third Olympics in Vancouver (she came in fourth at the 2002 Games and won the silver in 2006).
What a gorgeous and gracious skater. She accommodated everyone who approached her and was a very, hm, what's the word, a very "seasoned" celebrity at age 25. Maybe because I've been lucky enough to interview so many skaters, I'm getting a good sense of who is a true media pro. Sasha certainly has been in the limelight for many years to know how to interact with fans, photographers, camerapeople, reporters, people who weren't too familiar with her, you name it. Each is slightly different and she makes it look easy -- That's a skill people!

Susan, Really enjoyed your video mix and music for the Sasha Cohen video. Girl can skate!!!
