The headline on the Stars, Stripes and Skates matter is misleading. The IRS has not "gone after" Tara Modlin, nor is her foundation under investigation. Its non-profit status was revoked along with 274,000 others in the US for failure to comply with a new filing rule. They're listed on page six of this IRS release under their original name, 9-11 Families Giving Back Inc. Note that the NY State list is in two sections, because there were 19,000 auto-revocations in NY alone. The IRS nationwide release is here: http://www.irs.gov/charities/article/0,,id=240099,00.html Part one of the NY State release is here: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-tege/ny_part1.pdf Additionally, Modlin released a follow-up to the statement you have linked above. It can be found here: http://www.starsstripesandskates.org/Special_SSS_Message_07152011.pdf

Yes, what Jenn said. There was never any IRS investigation, it's just the Post writing a misleading, inaccurate story and creating a scandal where there wasn't one. No surprise there, that's the way the Post operates, it's a Rupert Murdoch publication after all. Glad Tara is fighting back.
