Be Good Johnny Weir Recap of Episode 5: Johnny tries out a career in fashion
Be Good Johnny Weir airs Mondays 10/9 central on Logo. The show follows two time Olympian and three time US national figure skating champion Johnny Weir as he tries to find a career outside of skating, while training for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
There is a lot of fur in Episode 5 and I really mean a lot. You may be in fur heaven or may feel sick to your stomach and donate to PETA right away. Johnny is in the former and is superexcited that he has been asked to design a coat for Adrienne Landau the furrier. He works with her staff to create his first fur piece and definitely has a point of view -- that it should be knee length, with inside drawstrings and a high collar. Oh, and the whole thing should be at least 2-3 coyotes. Click here to see Johnny's coat.
During Fashion Week 2011, in addition to the drama surrounding his fur coat (e.g. Oh no! Adrienne advises that the coyotes are stuck in customs!), Johnny also walks in many runway shows (even opens the show for Indashio!), air kisses Isaac Mizrahi (whom he calls his idol), does a very cool skating fashion show for Elise Overland, and ponders his talents as a fashion designer. What Johnny takes away from his Fashion Week experience is that it is utter chaos and pandemonium -- Models are changing everywhere, it is incredibly noisy, there is not a moment to yourself even though he desperately wants a minute of solitude before walking the runway. Alas, it is not to be as models are treated like cattle, or coyotes.
Highlights from Episode 5:
- In preparation for Fashion Week, Johnny gets a butt wax at Eric Alt Salon. Needless to say, an unpleasant experience.
- Johnny's skating spectacular seems to be on hold as he is being pulled in all different directions. Aw shucks...I was disappointed when he said that.
- Miss J, runway coach and star of America's Next Top Model with Tyra Banks, gives Johnny a lesson in runway walking. Afterwards, she has three pieces of advice for Johnny: Relax. Keep your shoulders back. Do not move your hips.
Watch the full episode below. If you only have two minutes to spare, just go to 13:00 where Miss J educates Johnny on runway walking.
Next on Episode 6... Johnny is a judge on ABC's Skating with the Stars (yes, that one which aired December 2010-- are we going backwards in time?) and is rude to Vince Neil of Motley Crue. Johnny needs a history music lesson. Vince Neil is a god. Don't be rude to Vince Neil.
