(8/27/13) - U.S. Figure Skating announced today the ticket and schedule information for the 2013 U.S. International Figure Skating Classic, scheduled for Sept. 11-15, in Salt Lake City. The international senior competition, in its second year, will feature more than 70 athletes representing nearly 20 countries, including reigning Olympic champion Evan Lysacek and two-time World ice dance champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White.
The event will take place at the Salt Lake City Sports Complex, which served as an official training venue at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. Day passes will be available for $10 and all-event tickets (three days of competition) will be $30. Tickets will be available at the door starting at noon on Thursday, Sept. 12.
Competition begins Sept. 12 with the pairs and men's short programs. All four disciplines will compete Friday, Sept. 13, with the conclusion of the pairs and men's events and the ladies short program and short dance. Competition will conclude Saturday, Sept. 14, with the ladies free skate and free dance. A timing schedule is below.
Lysacek will compete for the first time since winning gold at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, while many other members of Team USA will also begin their quests for a spot on the 2014 Olympic Team. Davis and White are five-time reigning U.S. champions. They will be joined by Max Aaron, the 2013 U.S. champion; the 2013 U.S. silver medalist Gracie Gold; reigning U.S. pairs champions Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir; and other U.S. and World medalists.
The international field will include France's Nathalie Pechalat and Fabian Bourzat, two-time Olympic ice dancers and 2012 World bronze medalists. Canadian pairs team Kirsten Moore-Towers and Dylan Moscovitch finished fourth at the 2013 World Championships. A full list of U.S. and international entries is available here.
In conjunction with the International Figure Skating Classic, U.S. Figure Skating will host the U.S. Novice & Junior Challenge Skate, an invitational for American skaters who have competed domestically at the intermediate, novice and junior levels. The goal of the event is for skaters to experience what an international competition is like. In addition to competing against other top skaters at their levels, athletes will have the opportunity to attend seminars, undergo media training and more.
Icenetwork will provide complete event coverage of the U.S. International Classic and Challenge Skate. Exclusive streaming video of all competition will be available to subscribers, while free recaps, news and photos will be accessible to all users. For more information or to subscribe, click here.
