Last Monday I caught up with Olympic champion Evan Lysacek in NYC at a holiday event sponsored by Ferrero, the Italian chocolatier. Evan has partnered with Ferrero to help raise funds for Habitat for Humanity, an organization which builds affordable housing for low-income people around the world. In addition to presenting a check for $100,000 to Habitat for Humanity, Evan also designed a holiday dress that will be auctioned off with all proceeds benefiting the organization. As Evan explains in the interview above, the dress was inspired by Ferrero chocolates and he hopes that this is the start of his design career. However, he is beginning with a menswear line and has received lots of mentoring from fashion magnate and friend Vera Wang, who was also in attendance. In addition to his fashion endeavors, Evan is also eyeing a return to competition, working on a nutrition line, touring with Stars on Ice, performing in other skating specials and enjoying the collaboration he's built with his sponsors and charities. What a busy guy! And lastly, Evan said that he won't be able to compete at Nationals in January because he had a prior engagement that he committed to and it was going to be a surprise. Just got back from a Ferrero event at Rockefeller Center where a dashing Evan Lysacek unveiled his first foray into women's fashion: a lovely gown inspired a chocolate bon bon. And Evan's fashion world mentor, a super svelte Vera Wang in mid-thigh leather boots, was on hand to lend moral support. We spoke with both of them and will have a video interview soon. Headline: Evan is super busy, working on a menswear line as well as nutrition supplement products, phenomenally successful, and may make it back on to the ice competitively, but not sure when. Vera thinks Evan's athletic background gives him the drive and tenacity to succeed in fashion.

Fashion mogul Vera Wang was on hand to honor Dorothy Hamill at Ice Theatre of New York's 2010 gala. Vera explains the importance of having an Ice Theatre of New York and why Hamill is the honoree for 2010. The event also featured Johnny Weir and Sarah Hughes (watch complete coverage here).
